When the stresses of a corporate environment got too much, Mike Boon decided to tackle the 3000 kilometres of the uncompromising Zambezi River, single-handedly, in a kayak. He was in for 100 days of paddling through war-torn countryside, boiling rapids and crocodile-infested waters, with the constant reminder that, when times got tough, he was in it alone. A man of contrasts - driven by lingering demons of his past and terrifying flashbacks - Mike embarked upon a process of reconciliation with himself, his continent and his world. Physically he was not unprepared for his adventure. An ex-air-borne soldier and elite 'Pathfinder', he was vastly experienced in surviving in the harsh African bush. He had also done his homework - civil war in Angola, aggressive crocodiles, landmines in Mozambique, illnesses like malaria, hepatitis and dysentery, political instability in Zimbabwe, possible attacks from carnivores, and some of the biggest, most treacherous rapids in the world. Going it alone was perhaps the greatest danger, and Mike knew that any mishap could lead to extreme difficulty or even death. http//facebook.com/natoutdoor

Great book !! I know a lot of the places and some faces as I was born in and grew up in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and have been forcibly removed from my homeland. I understand a lot of the reasons and conclusions for and from his journey, as I find myself in a similar position and mindset. I would like to thank Mike for putting his heart and mindset into words as it has helped me understand a path forward, both mentally and as a white African!Product details

I was humbled by the intimate story telling of the cleansing of his
Mind and body during this epic journey.
the book arrived in quite quick time. in excellent condition. The book was for my partner; he said it is good, but not as he imagined it would be - he was recommended by his brother. pictures are excellent.
I really enjoyed the story but was very disappointed not to find any pictures included in the edition ( Given the price for the eBook is relatively high compared to print , pictures should really have been included, so feeling a bit cheated.
Mike's adventure is filled with excitement, nerve-wracking and touching moments. His interactions (sometimes entirely lacking speech) with the people living next to the Zambezi are especially endearing and reminds one of the power of kindness and generosity.
The shear challenge of a solo adventure of this nature is superbly portrayed, but this book is more about the river, its people, and its fauna and flora. The author clearly illustrates the extreme inequality in Africa, and how human greed adversely effects some of the truly precious areas we have on this planet.
