I will review each of the three novellas separately, as my experience with each is markedly different. It's so unfortunate that Harlequin Historical would put three so very different old west romances in the same book. I feel bad for Ms. Arens, whose 5-star book is affected by the others.

A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS by Carolyn Davidson- 1 star
I read the entire novella. I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen. Zero conflict. Zero challenges. The situation of a storm and a stranded widower and his little boy does not equal conflict. Conflict is anything that keeps the man and woman from falling in love and living happily ever after. Unfortunately Gideon and Joy fell in love quickly, easily, without blinking. Boring.

A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE by Carol Arens- 5 stars
I'd forgotten who wrote this novella as I read it, but as soon as I checked realized of course! I've already fallen in love with Arens's stories. I found myself laughing at the children's morphed "Satan's Spawn" into "Satan's Spoon" and then to "Santa's Spoon". Just like little kids would do when they don't quite understand what adults are saying. This magical Christmas tale does require some ignoring of reality, but doesn't all fiction? I loved that Rayne and Laira Lynne were at complete odds--they were both determined to get what they wanted, but couldn't both succeed. And falling in love conflicted that whole set-up. This story flowed along smoothly, easily, with nothing extraneous, nothing wasted. I loved that Laira Lynne believed kisses should mean something and wouldn't give out her kisses too easily. Very suitable to the time period. Rayne's a hero I could fall in love with and keep. This story seemed a little silly in its type of humor but it did have me chuckling. Any book that makes me cry, makes me laugh, makes me forget real life for a while deserves all 5 stars!

CHRISTMAS WITH HER COWBOY by Lauri Robinson- 3 stars
Tanner and Anna need a second chance. And I love second chances themed romances. The affection and love between them was obvious, and her 'fiance' did cause hurt feelings and conflict, as did Grandpa's response to her return. I never really got Anna's reasons for not coming clean immediately, at least once the fiance's behavior rubbed her the wrong way. Anna had excellent support in her grandfather and Tanner, and leaving the fiance in the mix of things just didn't work. I read those paragraphs justifying her silly behavior several times and it still wasn't adequate. I was left with "stupid girl" instead of "oh, I see". And that's just sad. By the end, I really didn't care whether Anna got what she wanted, but Tanner (a good guy) wanted her, so let it be a happy ending. Meh.

Average Rating of 3 stars: 1 + 5 + 3 = 9. 9/3 = 3 on average for the set. I'll definitely look for more books by Carol Arens. I'm charmed by this sweet Christmas story and want to enjoy more of her stories. I know Carolyn Davidson and Lauri Robinson are popular Harlequin authors but ultimately their storytelling just isn't for me. I do own more books by both authors and perhaps I'll find them more to my liking.

Good story
It is light reading and I truly enjoyed their stories. All three stories went straight to the heart and maybe even a few tears.
All three stories capture the spirit of hope and blessings of the season.. A great read to get you in the holiday spirit!
These are some more short stores. It is so mice to read them during the Christmas time when you don't have the time to get into a full book. I have enjoyed them.
